Where Chinese cars stand in terms of connectivity and UX

Chinese car manufacturers put through their paces

Aachen, 2021/08/04 – Together with connect magazine, umlaut tested four popular and technology-leading cars from Chinese manufacturers in user experience and car connectivity.

The overall best rating is achieved by the “Han” electric sedan, which is located in the upper mid-range. BYD Han performed best overall with a grade of good and a score of 790 out of 1,000 points. The SUV coupé from NIO is second ranked with an overall grade of good and a score of 755 points. The electric sedan from XPeng P7 ranks third with an overall grade of satisfactory and a score of 735. The fourth place is held by Lixiang One, the only plug-in Hybrid SUV, who achieves a score of 706 and an overall grade of satisfactory.

Hakan Ekmen, Managing Director at umlaut, says: “The services and functions targeted at consumers in China are not fully comparable with those offered by car manufacturers based in the western hemisphere. Even with these limitations though, manufacturers such as BYD and NIO perform admirably in our comparison. Some of their innovations would also be very attractive for cars made outside of China too.”
