Aachen, 2022/09/27 - For the third time, we have tested internet connections in Switzerland together with PC Magazin. In the period from March to August 2022, a total of 96,651 fixed broadband connections were tested and over 5.9 million measurement samples were analysed. Conclusion: Swisscom takes the overall victory, followed by Sunrise and Salt.
Swisscom wins for the first time with 967 out of 1000 points and the grade "outstanding". In the speed tests in the upload direction, which were included for the first time, and especially in the runtimes, Swisscom was able to set clear records in some cases. Sunrise followed closely in second place with 961 points. In the past two years, Sunrise was able to win our broadband benchmark and offer its users the best internet experience on balance. This year it was not quite enough to defend the title for the third time. The decisive factor was primarily the lower proportion of users who were able to achieve or undercut the required runtimes of 20 milliseconds (first-person shooter gaming class) or even 10 milliseconds (ultra-low latency class). Salt follows in third place. Salt is on the fast track in the fixed network, but had too low a number of cases for a valid evaluation compared to the national competitors.
Hakan Ekmen, CEO Telecommunication at umlaut says: "With an outstanding result the winner Swisscom and also Sunrise are setting standards in our broadband benchmark. The evaluation in the cantons also shows impressively: Switzerland is very far advanced in the implementation of the digital network infrastructure."
The fixed network in Switzerland is in an excellent position and was once again able to impressively demonstrate its good reputation in our Broadband Benchmark 2022 with top values and strong scores. If Salt had had enough accesses and measurement samples for a valid evaluation, the third in the group would also have had a good chance of achieving the top mark. This time, however, the number of cases was not sufficient for a reliable representation in the overall national evaluation.
