20.09.2022 - In cooperation with PC Magazin, we have once again tested the fixed broadband in Austria. The focus was on the fixed broadband experience at home, holistically and from the user's point of view. In the period from March to August 2022, over 35,400 fixed network connections were examined and over 3.7 million measurement data were evaluated. Conclusion: Magenta Telekom can once again secure the overall lead - Kabelplus, Liwest and Salzburg AG also continue to offer the best Fixed Broadband user experience in their distribution areas.
Magenta Telekom leads overall with 845 out of 1,000 points and the grade "good" for the fourth time in a row. Especially in the actively triggered speed tests, the provider was able to move upwards. Only five points are missing for the overall grade "very good". A1 Telekom Austria defends second place with 742 out of 1,000 points and the grade "satisfactory" - only seven points are missing for the overall grade "good". A1 achieved the best score in the passively determined user experience in download: In the important UHD video class, 35.6% of internet users exceeded the required 20 Mbit/s in their home WLAN network. A1 also maintains its top position from the previous year when looking at latencies, which are important for online gaming, among other things. Hutchison Drei also received the grade "satisfactory" and remained in third place with 654 out of 1,000 points. Drei was on a par with its two nationwide competitors in terms of the stability of internet connections.
The regional network operators continue to be a good alternative to the nationwide network operators in their traditional distribution areas with their excellent user-oriented overall internet performance. Kabelplus secures the overall victory in Lower Austria, the same goes for Liwest in Upper Austria and for Salzburg AG in Salzburg. They all earn the overall grade "very good". In the other provinces surveyed, Magenta Telekom came out on top.
"For the fourth time in a row, Magenta Telekom takes the lead in Austria. For customers, the significantly increased peak data rate compared to the previous year is particularly pleasing. The A1 network is the network of choice for interactive real-time strategy games due to its low latency. Hutchison Three is currently investing in fibre roll-out and you can already see great results," says Hakan Ekmen, CEO Telecommunications at umlaut, part of Accenture.
