It has long been clear that the energy transition will only succeed with innovative, new solutions. The entire energy industry is undergoing fundamental change - the demands on a sustainable and affordable energy supply are constantly increasing, new players are entering the market and conventional business models are becoming obsolete.
The transmission grid faces a particular conflict here. As a highly regulated operator of critical infrastructure, well-organised and robust technology and innovation management is essential to enable a seamless transition to the power grid of the future.
For this reason, our experts have investigated the organisation of technology and innovation management of European transmission system operators and compared their performance. Challenges and best practices were identified in a survey of 16 transmission system operators. The study offers insights into the organisational integration of innovation management in the industry and identifies potential areas for action to strengthen the innovative capacity of transmission system operators.
